Level: The day is for anyone looking to improve their depth of eventing knowledge. It will be invaluable to anyone looking at or studying for BHS Stage 4 or Stage 5 Assessment or Pony Club A/AH exams. Open to coaches, trainers, students and horse owner/riders. It is also suitable for Coaches who are preparing candidates for assessment as well as Coaches looking to further their work with groups and individual riders.
The day is planned to be informative and interactive with plenty of opportunity discuss what we observe.
CPD Opportunity: for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches at Stage 5 and above.
Programme – times TBC
8:30am Registration and coffee at the BHS stand
OR meet at the XC warm up (it’s nearer to the car park!) for a 9am start
Section 1: 2 hours XC – CIC4*-S (8 & 9 year olds)
Review FEI demands – look at time, distance and fitness
Observe and discuss horse and rider fitness, at both start and finish.
Observe tack & equipment in the collecting ring.
Observe & discuss finish, stress, vet checks and cool down.
Section 2: 1.5 hours Group discussion and sharing best practice
The sport at the lower amateur levels, including junior participation – current trends being seen such as experience and ability, types of horses, tack trends etc. Coaches experiences of client demands and expectations, how to manage them.
If time allows, observation of the Stallion Parade
Lunch Break (lunch not included; tea/coffee will be available at the BHS stand)
Section 3: 2 hours XC CIC4*-L Course Walk
To include: looking at lines, options, approaches & ground. Review & discuss demands of the FEI course including time, distance, fitness and the efforts.
Section 4: 1 hour SJ CIC4*-L
Review tack and equipment. Observe and discuss rider warm-up in collecting ring. Use of practice fences. Relate warm-up strategies and appearances to performance outcomes in arena.
Cost: £45 including event admission ticket and car pass (£40.50 without a car pass).
Places are limited to just 20 people to ensure a great, small group atmosphere and plenty of opportunity to join in discussions!
